Let’s make some noise while we follow the adventures of brightly coloured dots as they jump, walk, bounce and talk through the pages. Shout “oh!” Whisper “ah!” Say “wahoo” and “zoop!” Each page is filled with sounds, bursts of colour, and motion that will capture any child’s imagination.
‘Say Zoop!’ is a new interactive book written by Hervé Tullet author of ‘Press Here’ and ‘Let’s Play’. Through simple instructions, it guides little ones to run their fingers along the shapes and lines while making lots of fun sounds. Children have an opportunity to make simple speech sounds (e.g. “oh” and “ah”), animal noises and even robot voices. The sounds start off simple and then grow in complexity as the book progresses. By the end of the book, children are encouraged to copy non-words, such as “zik”, “tchonk” and “zoop”.
This book would be fantastic in any Speech-Language Pathologist’s toolkit, particularly for working on speech sounds, as you could always replace the suggested sounds in the book with the child’s speech sound goal/s. You could use it for auditory bombardment and say the target sound while the child follows the shapes with his fingers. Alternatively, the child could practise their target sound/s while interacting with the book.
The goals to target using ‘Say Zoop!’ are endless. It’s great for developing print awareness as children will learn that the text can tell us which sounds or words to say. In addition to developing language skills, this book can also develop little one’s fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
For further speech and language goals to target using ‘Say Zoop!’, see the list below.
